Purchased prjector last semptember and was amazed how good the picture looked! After twenty hours of use projector broke. I Called Viewsonic customer service and was sent a refurbished projector. The picture quality on the refurbished projector does not look near as good as one that broke. I called Viewsonic back and was told that the refurbished projector was only loaned out to me while my other one was being repaired. If they could not repair it they would send me a brand new one.
Four months and two dozen phone calls later I was told I would not recieve a new projector the refurbished one was my replacement. Not satisfied with this answer I ask to get my money back. I was told it takes about a week to submit a refund claim and someone would get back in touch with me. That was three weeks ago and I'm still haven't heard from anyone. The first projector I order had a fantastic piture to bad it only lasted twenty hours. As far as customer service their is none.

A great projector for the price, however realize it is DLP and the wheel spins @ 1x, so you (like me) may see the 'rainbow effect' (typically in areas of quick motion/change on screen is where I'll see it). So advice is check out 1x DLP projectors before buying. PS: On the free Mount and screen front, be aware that Canadians have to pay shipping *AND* duties, so it works out that you really only get the mount for free.

I received it via UPS in good condition and connected it to my laptop and was projecting on my basement wall in a matter of minutes. Excellent picture and I can barely hear it running. I been running it for 2 days (on & off) going through my training course.
I am watching a movie now in a well lit basement and the picture is great! Even using a bed sheet for a screen.
Great price, great product, excellent service from TigerDirect.

Outstanding! It does lack a few bells and whistles, but at this price you can't beat it. I am VERY impressed with the picture quality! One thing to note though that is very disapointing is the ''free'' screen and mount. First it is 50 bucks shipping which in the grand scheme is nothing, but the screen they send is a 4:3 format screen and the mount is flimsy. Keep in mind they say 80'' inch screen, but this is 80'' diagonal NOT wide. The projector at 13 to 15 feet back (most people's living room dimentions) shows a wide screen movie at 80'' WIDE and does not shrink down enough to fit on the screen. I also went ahead and purchased the Atdec Flush Universal Projector mount (A16-1020) and again, I can't say enough good things about this mount! It is well worth the 79.99 for this mount to go on this projector. So, overall, Excellent Value, good features, good quality, and A+ performance. Very happy. I'm selling the ''free'' screen and mount on eBay for the cost of the 50 bucks. :)

my family and I are very satisfied with the quality, value and performance of this projector.
Colors are really nice. Haven't seen yet the so called ''rainbow-effect'' but it's really good. The focus/zoom function is a little bit limited but acceptable. For the FREE screen and mount --I agree to the other write-ups --- the screen has a problem with retraction but on the good side the 48x67'' viewing size is big enough and displays the picture/colors good. The projector and screen/mount almost arrived at the same time in less than 7 working days. The projector is not noisy, you can barely hear it when you are watching. OVerall --- a good investment and substitute for the costly big plasma/lcd tvs -- if you're on budget. You will like this playing your movies and tv shows.

I bought this projector approximately about 2 months ago and I LOVE THIS THING!! Before I bought it I put alot of research into finding a decent projector for a good price. Instead I got a great projector for a great price!! I use this to play my movies from my computer, but mostly for my xbox 360 and the graphics are sick!!! The only bad part of this whole deal was that crappy screen that they sent me and mount. The screen was only about 70'' and the mount sucked.. I suggest you do what I did and make your own screen. Now it looks like i have a theater in my room!!

I bought this for our bedroom TV. We have Win Media Center Edition and watch all of our TV through the computer. This projector works very well with using a SVGA cable to the projector. Picture looks great on the wall. The problem is, we are still watching this on our wall, not the 80in screen with mount... I submitted the rebate request to Elite Screens 20 days ago. I have called and emailed them each three times with no response on status. They indicate that I am responsible for the ~$50.00 shipping but I have no idea how to pay for it? The projector is great. The Elite Screens rebate is so far, a joke.

The FREE screen and mount deal sucked. Both the screen and mount were out of stock so I got a 71'' screen instead of 80'' and the mount is much shorter than the one advertised. The ''shipping'' cost me $73.72 and the brokerage fees from DHL were $42.43. However, the projector itself is great, even with the extra $117.14 it's a bargain.

It is NOT hi-def and the 800x600 really does suck when you plug it into your computer. No DVI, definitely analog VGA. I'm going to throw it on craigslist and get something better. I agree with the other reviews posted here. The one point not mentioned is the ZOOM feature. I went with this unit because of the zoom and it turned out to be a worthless option. I have limited locations to place the projector and the screen. I had planned on using the zoom to control the size of the image. On a 10 foot (diagonal) image you can only adjust the size of the image by about 10 inches. Not much help.

Picked this up last Friday (July 13) to use as a replacement for our dead old AKAI projection TV. In two words: ''Freakin awesome'' I picked it up at the local outlet store, they had one on display and an optima I was looking at too and the picture on the Viewsonic seemed better than the more expensive optima. Easy to hook up, great picture even on a white wall. Still waiting on the screen and mount but I suspect it will look even better once we have that. Specs say it supports 800X600 native but hooked my laptop up to it and it ran 1024X768 and looked just fine. Only con is it does not have an DVI input. Real test will be how long the bulb lasts under heavy use as a TV, but so far so good, very pleased with unit.

I got this projector just after a week of purchase. I was very impressed right from the start.
Pro:
size: It's pretty light and comes with a bag for easy transport.
focus: I was able to connect my laptop to the projector without the need of any installation. The lens are easy to focus. I projected onto some white blinds and it worked out fine.
''free screen'': the free manual pulldown screen and mount offer is still valid. In fact, I got it all the same day as my projector. They extended the offer to July 31st. ''The Catch'' is you need to pay $50 in shipping fees.
Cons:
audio: The audio cable included does not work with my laptop; fortunately for me, I already had the audio cable necessary. The speaker has its limits. I've been getting better volume and quality by connecting computer speakers to my laptop to get better and louder volume.
operation: The projector does not instantly turn on or off.

This is a fantastic projector for this price. Most other projectors in the sub-500 range offer anemic 1500 lumens, while this has a full 2000 and is quite bright even in a lighted room. It looks acceptable on an imperfect white wall, and far sharper, crisper, and less pixelated on a screen. Please note that the free screen deal ended 6/30. Also, in order to get High Definition Component video input, you must purchase a VGA to Component adapter, which is fully supported, for around $20. Even without a free screen and mount, this is still a great buy.

DLP Digital Lighting Processing DLP™ technology is a revolutionary display solution that uses an optical
semiconductor to manipulate light digitally. It's also a proven and dependable
technology preferred by leading electronics companies worldwide, with more
than 2 million systems shipped to more than 50 manufacturers since 1996.
DLP™ technology is in use wherever visual excellence is in demand. In fact,
it's the only display solution that enables movie projectors, televisions,
home theater systems and business projectors to create an entirely digital
connection between a graphic or video source and the screen in front of
you. The result is maximum fidelity: a picture whose clarity, brilliance
and color must be seen to be believed.
DLP Digital Lighting Processing
Digital Light Processing™ is the world's only all-digital display solution
and a key ingredient in the best digital projectors available today. DLP™
technology uses an optical semiconductor to recreate source material with
a fidelity analog systems cannot match.
The Semiconductor That Changes
At the heart of every DLP™ projection system is an optical semiconductor
known as the Digital Micromirror Device, or DMD chip, was invented by Dr.
Larry Hornbeck of Texas Instruments in 1987. The DMD chip is probably the
world's most sophisticated light switch. It contains a rectangular array
of up to 1.3 million hinge-mounted microscopic mirrors; each of these micromirrors
measures less than one-fifth the width of a human hair, and corresponds
to one pixel in a projected image. When a DMD chip is coordinated with a
digital video or graphic signal, a light source and a projection lens, its
mirrors can reflect an all-digital image onto a screen or other surface.
The DMD and the sophisticated electronics that surround it are what we call
Digital Light Processing™ technology.
Digital Light Processing I: The Gray
Scale Image
A DMD panel's micromirrors are mounted on tiny hinges that enable them to
tilt either toward the light source in a DLP™ projection system (ON) or
away from it (OFF)-creating a light or dark pixel on the projection surface.
The bit-streamed image code entering the semiconductor directs each mirror
to switch on and off up to several thousand times per second. When a mirror
is switched on more frequently than off, it reflects a light gray pixel;
a mirror that's switched off more frequently reflects a darker gray pixel.
In this way, the mirrors in a DLP™ projection system can reflect pixels
in up to 1,024 shades of gray to convert the video or graphic signal entering
the DMD into a highly detailed grayscale image.
Digital Light Processing II: Adding Color
The white light generated by the lamp in a DLP™ projection system passes
through a color wheel as it travels to the surface of the DMD panel. The
color wheel filters the light into red, green and blue, from a single-chip
DLP™ projection system can create at least 16.7 million colors. And the
3-DMD chip system found in DLP Cinema™ projection systems is capable of
producing no fewer than 35 trillion colors. The on and off states of each
micromirror are coordinated with these three basic building blocks of color.
For example, a mirror responsible for projecting a purple pixel will only
reflect red and blue light to the projection surface; our eyes then blend
these rapidly alternating flashes to see the intended hue in a projected
image.
Applications And Configurations
Televisions, home theater systems and business projectors using DLP™ technology
rely on a single DMD chip configuration like the one described above. White
light passes through a color wheel filter, causing red, green and blue light
to be shone in sequence on the surface of the DMD. The switching of the
mirrors, and the proportion of time they are 'on' or 'off' is coordinated
according to the color shining on them. The human visual system integrates
the sequential color and sees a full-color image.
One-Chip DLP Projection System
DLP™ technology-enabled projectors for very high image quality or high brightness
applications such as cinema and large venue displays rely on a 3-DMD-chip
configuration to produce stunning images, whether moving or still.
Three-Chip DLP Projection System
In a 3-chip system, the white light generated by the lamp passes through
a prism that divides it into red, green and blue. Each DMD chip is dedicated
to one of these three colors; the colored light that each micromirror reflects
is then combined and passed through the projection lens to form a single
pixel in the image.
About HDTV Viewing Angles
The Viewing Angle of any TV is an important specification. The wider
the viewing angle, the more enjoyable your experience. Viewing angles
above 150° means you can view your TV from a reasonable range - from the
front and off to the sides. However, viewing angles above 170° are
best! Many of today's Plasma and LCD HDTVs offer viewing angles of
178°, and their images do not suffer from degradation at very high viewing
angles. LCD TVs were originally designed for a one user
experience, as a computer monitor, but the technology has kept pace with the
demands for ever increasing viewing angles, and most offer excellent viewing
experiences. Between LCD and Plasma; Plasma TVs have the advantage,
but by a small margin.
Viewing angles are not an issue with
projectors because the light source is coming from in front of the screen,
and not from behind. However, the surface on which you project (screen or
wall surface) may have a slight impact on viewing angles, so it is important
to choose the best screen possible.
