Way too much Windows Built In

I am not all that interested in the Windows and consumer-helper stuff in this. It seemed like it would be a more bare-metal tool. I am using it as a Datacenter appliance, so I will not be going into it through a CIFS share. It is going to be an NFS Unix drive in a Debian server, if I can get proof of concept to work.

what a Nightmare

6 months into use we lost our first drive. Had to purchase a replacement 1 TB drive. Host did a fine job of resysnc ing the mirror data back onto drive 2. 1 year later the fan when out. Sent me an email telling me the fan when out then trashed BOTH the mirrored drives. !00% complete loss of all mirrored data. You cannot trust this product even in mirror mode to product your data. I found way too many examples of this same failure after I started to have trouble. Pick something else to build your raid device. We are going to build a simple computer with built-in raid to host our next network storage. It will be much more reliable.

Never ending features

There is no doubt that StorCenter ix2-200 Network Storage drive offer more for the money invested. Some of the must mention features are the DLNA certified UPnP AV media server, remote access, Time Machine compatibility, built in torrent, print server application, Integrated Cooliris technology and many more. The device is suitable for home users like me. It supports Bluetooth, Active Directory and one touch backup. I am using the device as a server for iTunes as well. There is no need for a dedicated PC for file sharing if you use the built in torrent support that comes with the ix2-200. The gigabit Ethernet slot facilitates remote access.

This is a great product

I really like the ease of use and setup of this HD. The mirrored feature gives you peace of mind and the scalability allows you to grow in case you need more space in the future. In all, I believe this is a great value.

No more worries about disk failure

File management is advanced in Iomega StorCenter ix2-200 as it is configured for RAID 1 meaning data is written onto two disk drives. The user can swap from one drive to another incase of any disk failure. StorCenter is all about mirrored disks that reduces any kind of data mismanagement. What I found interesting was that the network storage stores two copies of every file which in turn can be replicated to another computer or USB device or even online backup can be taken using MozyHome. Files are copied onto the network storage device as well as the networked computer twice, so the lifespan of the backup is higher and hence risk of data failure is absolutely minimal. With such advanced feature, how can you say no to StorCenter ix2-200.
