SATA II-150 2-Port Cardbus
Serial ATA (SATA) is the latest form of computer connectivity, featuring faster
transfer speeds, easier configuration, and the ability to hot swap drives. With
the Vantec 2-Port eSATA PCMCIA CardBus, you can add the features and functionality
of eSATA to your notebook. With the external SATA port, the PCMCIA
Cardbus gives the flexibility of adding a high speed connection to an external
hard drive. Traditionally, one would use USB 2.0 to connect to external
hard drives. While USB 2.0 offers reasonably fast speeds at 480Mbps, SATA
transfers at a speed of up to 1,500Mbps! Take advantage of SATA on your
computer with the Vantec 2-Port eSATA PCMCIA CardBus.

The card works perfectly and I can't beat the transfer rates that the Esata delivers. Plug and play and great for laptops with no Esata connections built in. |

My D630 actually transfers data slower via this card. My machine has all the latest drivers including the latest download for this card from vantecusa. I purchased the 2.5 external esata usb2 enclouser and mounted a brand new drive. I hooked it to my machine via usb2 and bench marked it 6 times. I then hooked it to my machine via this esata card and benchmarked it 6 times and the usb2 was faster every time. Below is the average of the results in mbps:
USB 18.35 mbps write 1051.37 read
esata 16.18 mbps write 1104.22
I am sure its the computer not the adaptor but be aware. I was looking for encreased performance for guest virtual machines. My next attempt will be to add a second hard drive using the cdrom bay in my laptop.
TD has been the bomb and I am very pleased with the retailer. |

This card gives me twice the speed of the alternative - USB. It was a breeze to install and worked without any issues (if you follow directions). I'm using XP Pro, Service Pack 3 on a Gateway laptop. (Vista Sucks) |

Buyer beware. PCMCIA can be the slowest bus in your computer. Theoretically, in 32bit dword mode, PCMCIA is 133MB/s. On my Dell D630, I'm getting 19MB/s write performance through this card. This is much slower than USB 2.0. Avoid this card if you're not sure your PCMCIA bus is going to operate at full throughput. |
