A high definition monitor is a display device designed to deliver the exceptional picture quality of high definition pictures, one fully prepared for HD sources like HD set top boxes. A HD monitor offers picture quality beyond that of progressive scan, conforming to strict standards for HD screens that display high resolution, top picture quality signals through a universal connection for either analog VGA or uncompressed DVI digital connections and supports HDCP. It displays 720p (1280x720p @ 50 and 60 Hz progressive) and 1080i (1920x1080i @ 50 and 60 Hz interlaced) signals.
16:9 widescreen aspect ratio
An aspect ratio is an expression of a video image's width compared to its height. The 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio is standard for universal to high-definition television and European digital television. A native 16:9 aspect ratio means outstanding game and video display without bars at top and bottom of the picture and without the quality loss than comes from scaling, altering an image to fit on a different screen size.
5ms on/off response time
On-Off response time is the period required for a liquid crystal cell to go from active (black) to inactive (white) and back to active (black) again. It is measured in milliseconds. Faster is better: Lower response time means faster transitions and, therefore, results in fewer visible image artifacts in the display of transition of texts and graphics. On-Off response time is a more important measure in the display of business content like documents, graphs and photos.
SmartContrast ratio 25000:1
You want the LCD flat display with the highest contrast and most vibrant images. Philips advanced video processing combined with unique extreme dimming and backlight boosting technology results in vibrant images. SmartContrast will increase the contrast with excellent blacklevel and accurate rendition of dark shades and colors. It gives a bright, lifelike picture with high contrast and vibrant colors.
Energy Star 5.0
Energy Star is a US EPA sponsored energy efficiency program also adopted by many other countries. Energy Star certification ensures that you are buying a product which meets the latest power efficiency standards which operates with maximum power efficiency at all operational levels. New Philips monitors are certified for Energy Star 5.0 specifications and meet or exceed the standard. For example, in sleep mode Energy Star 5.0 requires less than 1watt power consumption, whereas Philips monitors consume less than 0.5watts.

It is a good screen for the price. Hence, one should not expect anything extraordinary from this screen. It was my first purchase from this company and I am happy with it. |

I bought 3 of these and am using only one. One I returned, one was going to cost me another $40 for an adapter to an old G5 Mac tower (Apple made the second connector on the back different so they could make you buy theirs I guess), so it sits here unused. The one I'm using is just for a second (email) screen on a MacBook Pro. The resolution and image are all sub-par IMO, regardless of the cost. If mfgs such as I-Inc can make such great low-cost monitors with good performance specs, Philips surely could have done a better job on this one. Highly unrecommended. |

Picked this up for a friend. She loves it. Works great so far. I have a much larger version of this one with extra featurs, like speakers and hdmi connection, plus the onscreen setup is better. Don't cheap out if you don't want something simple. This 18.5, though it has a DVI connection is simple but nice just the same. It would be great as a second monitor, too |

Well I just got the monitor, less than 24 hours after ordering it (pretty impressive )!
Installed the monitor and set it to its native resolution of 1366 x 768 and it looks amazing. Highly recommend this monitor, and thumbs up again to the lightning fast shipping from this company! |

I got this monitor originally to be my 2nd screen on a dual screen setup for my gaming machine. The screen resolution just wasn't good enough for what I was looking for, so I now use it for my server.
It works perfectly fine, but for some reason the native resolution displays a semi-distorted image, as if it should be on another resolution (I tried all the monitor settings, still couldn't get it proper). |

Cleaning Your LCD Monitor or TV
Now that you have your new LCD Monitor or Widescreen TV, it is important to
use the right products to clean it. The wrong cleaner can damage the
surface of your display. However, there are many new cleaning products on the market designed especially for
LCD displays. We recommend using a soft, lint-free cloth and a special LCD
cleaner. (You can also use a cleaner that
contains any of the following: Water, Vinegar (mixed with water), or Isopropyl alcohol). BUT Do Not Use cleaners that contain any of the following agents: Acetone, Ethyl alcohol, Ethyl acid, Ammonia, Methyl chloride!
Important:
Do not spray any liquids directly on the LCD screen. Always apply the
solution to your cloth first, not directly to the parts you are cleaning.
Always use a soft cotton cloth. Some materials, such as paper towels or old
rags can cause scratches and damage the LCD screen.

Dual Monitor
Technology
