 Great Price! D-Link 4-Port Router
The D-Link DI-704P is an Ethernet Broadband Gateway with a built-in four-port
switch plus a print server function. The DI-704P provides the ability to share
a single Ethernet Cable or DSL broadband connection and share a single printer
among computers connected to the local network. The DI-704P is equipped with
four 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet ports and a bi-directional LPT port to support
a direct printer connection. The DI-704P's integrated Router and Firewall provide
NAT, DHCP, and packet filtering services between the local network and the Internet.
The DI-704P is targeted at small business and home users who want to connect
multiple computers and share a single printer.
Static address support, integrated DHCP, PPPoE, and device name support will
allow the DI-704P to connect to nearly any broadband provider whether Ethernet
Cable or DSL based. The DI-704P's Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)
feature provides dynamic allocation of IP addresses for up to 253 clients (computers)
on the local network. Printer software is provided to allow clients to print
to the network printer attached to the DI-704P's print server port. Being very
functional, the DI-704P will connect to any Ethernet devices and multiple types
of machines and operating systems. In addition, the four Ethernet ports offer
the convenience of auto-detecting the media type, thus eliminating the need
for using the correct type of cable (straight-through or crossover) when connecting
different Ethernet devices to this gateway.
The DI-704P provides two levels of security support. First, it masks the IP
addresses of computers within the local network from the Internet, thus making
it more difficult for a hacker to target a specific computer within the local
network. Secondly, it can block and redirect certain ports to limit the services
that outside users can access. To ensure that games and other Internet applications
will run properly, the DI-704P provides the capability to open specific ports.
The DI-704P provides special pass through function for common VPN implementations
including PPTP (Point to Point Tunneling Protocol), L2TP (Layer 2 Tunneling
Protocol) and IPSec. The Virtual Server feature allows the user to expose HTTP,
FTP, Game Servers and other local services to be accessible to Internet users
located outside the LAN. To allow any application to work even without knowing
the ports to be opened, the DI-704P allows a single client to be specified in
the DMZ zone located on the web configuration utility.
