I have had this same machine for 2 years now, and use it almost 14 hours a day for work/study purposes. I am NOT a gamer, so I can't advise you from that angle. These boxes DO overheat initially. There are hundreds of postings all over the net about these and similar machines overheating. Rarely does a so called technician ever give people the simple steps in order to solve the problem. eMachines call center has a few knowlegeable people on this issue. I can only tell you that I swore I would never buy an eMachine, period. I've always built my own. THIS machine is well damned worth the money! I sent my box in a year ago for RMA, only to change out the thermal gel on the processor. I have had no overheating problems since, and this box gets a ton of hard use! If you are willing to go through the hassle of eventually sending the box back to eMachines, for a week, and letting them do their thing, then cleaning the fan out every year or so, you will have one hell of a beautiful machine!

I've worked this machine well for 1 1/2 years (purchased 22-Nov-2003) with almost excellent results. I had to reload once due to Windows failure. The wireless card has failed, and the network (plug-in) connection is dodgy and wiggly. It oveheats and cuts out which is frustrating when processing videos, and I did try a underbase fan, but it was clumsy. Now have an adjustable stand from APC which is great (www.apc.com). I have two eMachines laptop and desktop) and they are considered disposable, cheap parts and short time - usually 1-2 years - but that's as long as technology lasts. I'd buy another one, as they now have DVD writer, but ''for a few dollars more'', I'd buy a Toshiba - the Volvo of computers. |

I've owned mine for over a year now and have zero complaints. The built-in 802.11g ability is nice as is the old modem and 100 Mb Ethernet abilities - this thing will connect with anything. The screen is nice and bright, good for watching the occassional DVD on the road. Linux also runs well on the machine. The processor is fast enough for business needs but not fast enough for my gaming needs. |

Great specs but the machine overheats and shuts down.
We bought 5 of them...same problem with all of them. |
