I've had the box for several weeks now. wanted a cheap alternative to $100 surround headsets. I've been using it with a 377 Gamecom headset and i was able to set an 8-channel audio after install. If you move the figure closer to the front left and front right virtual speakers you get an even more precise surround that helps you pinpoint targets before you ever see 'em! Play L4D and other shooters, the sound is great and I'm pretty satisfied. Took a while to set up but in the end the hassle paid off and I'll still be able to hook up physical speakers for real surround later.

The right channel input was shorted or dead right out of the box. The screened labels on the unit were switched for the Audio mute and one other LED, not a big deal once I figured it out but sent it back because of the dead right channel.

I bought this external soundcard for my desktop PC to replace the PC motherboard's on-board sound chip which failed. I simply plugged the soundcard into one of the USB ports on my PC using the USB cable supplied with the soundcard and Windows (I'm running Windows XP SP3) recognized the sound card right away. I connected my stereo speakers to the soundcard and they worked without any problems. The sound card works fine with my headphones too. The headphones have their own input jack. The soundcard also has two microphone input jacks a line-in jack for recording and other jacks as well so you can hook up up to 7 speakers and a subwoofer (Dolby Digital 7.1) for that home-theatre sound. It even has an SPDIF-IN(optical) and an SPDIF-OUT for connection to a home-theatre receiver or DVD player or game console such as XBOX. Very nice!
