For the price, this DVD burner is a good choice. Especially when you don't have to go through the chore of sending and waiting 4 months for a rebate check. Cost me less than 100 bucks including tax out the door!
This drive won't win any awards for speed. But when it does what it's supposed to do. Burn all the advertised DVD and CD formats with no surprises.
I have a 2.4GHz Celeron PC. Used DVD XCOPY xpress for backing movies. |

This DVD burner does what it says it does (burns DVD’s). If your looking for an inexpensive drive that burns +-R/RW then this drive does the job; I’m very happy with it. |

I can't say that this is an amazing piece of hardware because it isn't. However it does get the job done. I've been able to burn DVD’s (using Nero) and CD’s without any problems. The only problem I seem to have is that it's a little slow and sometimes doesn't detect the CD’s that are in the drive. |

This is for anyone who was like me when I purchased this item. I got the Hi-Val DVD burner because I was hoping to be able to copy my friends DVDs so that I could have them without having to borrow them. Well it does not work that way at all, most DVDs now a days are copy protected and wont let you copy them to a DVD+R or -R media. I dont currently know what I need to do to get this to work, but I think the whole purpose behind this burner was to be able to create my own DVDs not copy current ones. So if you know something I dont, and I dont know a lot, then please e-mail me @ SoMePuNkErStH3@cox.net and let me know what I need to do to be able to copy DVDs otherwise, good luck. |

Thanks for your message. Well, yes, you CANNOT copy DVDs due to copy protection with just a DVD burner. The recently 'banned' software from 321 Studios 'DVDxCopy' is what you need to do the trick! Then the drive is GREAT! |

The +R backup movie DVD's play nice on the PC, but they don't play in the Apex 1100w, which is compatible with +R. My hunch is its this burner, because the media plays in the Apex when recorded on a Cyberhome recorder. I haven't tried burning CD's yet, but will repost another review in a few days. I bought a new fast computer to burn DVD's and now I've got to get a compatible player or replace this burner, or hook a computer up to our home theater. Hope this is a helpful. |
