I purchased this drive for my primary Win XP PROF OS system drive on 7-23-09. Installatiion and operation went fine until 3-21-10 when the drive failed to boot with a drive error. I had the same problem as the three previous reviewers. Thanks to all the reviews on this product, I'm not going to waste my time in reinstalling my OS system on it. I'll purchase another brand. |

Installed 12.2009 and drive kacked completely today, 2.2.2010. Ran flawlessly up until yesterday when sector errors crashed the OS. Tried a clean reinstall and drive just died. What makes me the most upset is that I make a point of buying WD because of how reliable they are. I can't understand what went wrong, but this series of drives doesn't live up to my expectations. |

This drive has been in my system about 6 months. Two weeks ago, I started getting read failures and unbootability. Looks like the bad reviews of this drive are true for me. I didn't buy it from here - went to a slightly cheaper vendor, but this isn't a vendor problem, it's a WD quality problem. Buy a Seagate. |

I am now in the process of exchanging the 5th of this series drive. All the positives about ease of install, partition, etc are right on. My problems start between 6 and 14 months of ownership when the drives statrt to have problems with read write. I had one installed as the primary master (C) fail after 7 months to read, so no boot. Other times I have drives that stop writing for no reason. This whether they are installed internal or external. |

In order to properly access the full capacity of an ATA interface hard drive
or partition larger than 137GB and properly support 48-bit logical block addressing,
Windows Vista , Windows XP Service Pack 1 or Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 are required. This
issue does not affect SCSI hard drives.
