DVD's burned lots of info on one disk. A little too much... nowadays, an external HD is a better investment, unless you want to share ALL your info with others. Industrial companies may use this for CAD or larger files, but then again, HD's or flash drives now hold just as much. I suppose these are only good for collecting dust for a soft-copy backup

I had no problem with the DVD media. DVDR-s are indeed can be recorded at 4X. The disks itself are aesthetically pleasant - nice white writable surface with minor stripes for decoration. Jewel cases are slim (slimmer than usual) and include insets which can be used to write some useful info about the disk's contents.
